Shooting....?

Touchy subject with some and I understand...

But,
I've been a shooter all my life - since maybe 14.

Used to shoot RS (real steel) until most of it got banned after Hungerford & Dunblane.
Used to clay shoot for years as well.

I'm not a hunter though - love animals and would struggle to shoot them - more target and plinking / fun shooting.

Does anyone else here shoot?. I still have a number of pistols and rifles..

One of my rifles...

And pistols..

Re: Shooting....?

Oh boy, I can see this deteriorating into an anti-U.S. gun thing.

Although Poms and Aussies don't seem as gun-crazy as so many Yanks do.

Each to his or her own but I just don't see the appeal.
On a rural property, fine. A need to protect livestock, kill a snake or 'put-down' a suffering animal.
At a stretch, Olympic-type competitive sporting shooters.

But other than that ........ ?

Re: Shooting....?

I used to skeet shoot many years ago .( uses clay pigeons small round disks)
It's seemed at the time a harmless occupation and was always very closely monitored and full of softy rules.
Can't imagine shooting any living thing other than to end its suffering.

Re: Shooting....?

Hi Pummy,

It may be something you've not tried, but some find shooting fun.

For example..

When I first got together with the wife, she was horrified at the fact I liked shooting and had guns in the house.

Anyway,
One day I was plinking in the garage at empty shotgun cartridges and asked her if she'd like a go. She reluctantly accepted. She shot down a few of the shells and enjoyed it to the point she asked exactly how the gun worked and how to reload it. She'd always dissed it until she tried it.

As Muddy said, clay shooting is a good fun day out as well and can be quite addictive.

Yes, I appreciate that main design purpose was to kill (just as knives, spears, bow & arrow etc), but they can also be used for fun sporting purposes...

Re: Shooting....?

I can vouch for fender.
He isn't a gun nut, just a nut with a gun.
Hold on, that doesn't sound right.
Let me think about this and get back to you.

Re: Shooting....?

When I was a young lad I used to belong to a rifle club and owned a .22 rifle.

I kept it in a locked, built-in wooden cupboard (and kept the bolt separately) which, apparently, satisfied the policegentleman who came to check it out for suitability.

I could have broken into it in seconds with a crowbar or large screwdriver. I suppose things were less proscribed in those days!

That's not a gun, this is a gun...

9mm Glock pistol and a Styr rifle (the pic titles might give it away)
