I don't often get them, but if I do feel that very first 'tingle' and I get some cold sore ointment on it straightaway, I can usually stop it developing.
If I don't get the stuff on quickly though, it's too late and it will develop quickly then.
I don't usually get them but had one last week and having nothing in the house to treat it stuck some Salvlon and a plaster on top/changed it often and it was gone in two days .
The special ointment does work, even if you don't get it on quickly, but it takes a week to clear it.
Julie you usually get them when you are feeling run down, which I am sure you are at the moment, so please try to get as much rest as possible through your Chemo treatment. I am sure your lovely family will be able to cope without all the things you do for them.........or are you afraid that they may be able to do some things even better than you?
I think it's the chemo that's caused it but I have a lovely cold sore looks awful.
Anyone use any remedies that actually work ?
I used to use surgical spirit dabbed on a piece of cotton wool and taped in place on the spot for several hours. However, since you can no longer get surgical spirit, try TCP - yes it will 'sting' for a while but it will get under the skin and 'burn' the yeast infection away Julie darlin'.
I've always suffered with cold sores but they are very infrequent these days thank goodness. I used to use Zovirax but Tesco do their own make with the same ingredient Aciclovir for a quarter of the price...

I was about to recommend the same thing ..
Most chemists do a cheap equivalent.
It seems to be the best stuff around and dries them up quick.
Right rang my husband he's going to pop into boots and call in on his way to Heathrow, should be here in half an hour with boots own brand. I'll let you know if it works

Twink they do loads for me but my husbands aspergers makes some jobs really easier for me to do than him. Ten minutes to clean the bathroom this morning, if I'd left it to him would take him an hour or two and that's on top of working a 13 hour day too.
