Time to simplify life

There comes a time when possessions become burdensome .
I am always trying to clear out clutter and keep things simple .
But it seems to regenerate !
As I travel so much I have been living out of one suitcase for the last year .
I am now trying to cut down on stuff ( again )
We really don't need too much stuff.

Stuff is a great word -so descriptive .
Stuffed up nose , stuffed up cupboards

When I see those programmes on compulsive hoarders I feel quite ill.

I like the William Morris approach
Keep nothing that is neither useful or beautiful .

Re: Time to simplify life

Can you come and help me sort out the stuff in my shed?
It's so full now it all falls out when I open the door!
I'm not talking garden stuff either! Wool, fabric, craft stuff, paintings, ornaments, boxes and bags...
The lofts going the same way!
I think I need therapy!

omg!!!
Husband did our big shed yesterday
But it's ok everything in boxes just a bit of tidying as some sort of animal appears to have been living in one of them !
I don't want to think about the loft
At the moment practising the time honoured method .
( leave it and let your relies do it when you pop your clogs )

Re: Time to simplify life

I have a good clear out on a regular basis, when my husband isn't around. He would keep everything if he could, but never seems to be aware of the stuff I have disposed of if he hasn't seen me do it.

A good way to clear the clutter is to move house. Suddenly you realise that all that important stuff is still in boxes a year later....and you didn't miss it.

Re: Time to simplify life

I'm afraid I'm a bit of a clutterer. Not bad enough to be on a tv prog. yet, but working on it.
What does annoy me is the way I clutter work tops. I do like to see nice clear work tops yet mine are always full of stuff - plants mostly, pens, bits of writing pad, medicines, and even the birds mealworms for the next morning.
I do love my plants and flowers and I've always got plants, flowers, seedlings, cuttings, on my window sills which spill over on to the worktops. Plants are living things and I can't bear to throw bits away, I try to rescue and resucsitate every leaf and twig! Anything that looks like it's struggling, instead of throwing it away, it gets my best tlc instead.
I bought a cheap tiny 3 parts dead rhodedenron recently, barely more than 2 twigs. It really didn't look like it stood a chance, don't know why I bought it really, but I have persevered with the tlc and to my joy is has finally started growing new little leaves. I'm chuffed to bits.

I do clear out old clothes for the Salvation Army now and then though.

The only thing I do like hoarding is wood. I keep lengths of wood and board for years because I know that as soon as I throw it out I will need it. Anything under six inches isn't worth keeping. I'm sure Twink will agree with me on that.
