Re: Do You Have A Fear Of Heights?

Hi Art...

I have tell you, heights are my worst fear, and second to that is water.

I can go up in a plane and love it, but I cannot look down from a high balcony.

Water....weird, as I was a swimming instructor and have always been a strong swimmer, but since I got older and suffer from Pulmonary Embolisms, I can't breath in the waer if it is up by my chest, so I have become afraid of it.

I went in a Yacht when I was in Florida and I got sea sick, that was terrible....

Good thread Art.

Working at height was part of my job, in truth i probably had an unhealthy disrespect for the danger, the same as working on live cables.

Is that the Blue Mountains, Art?
I adore views like that from heights.

Love heights, Eiffel Tower, G1 tower, very top of St. Paul's Cathedral, Spinnaker, London Eye, Twin Towers, Shard, Sydney Bridge, any cliff top walks, cable car rides...BUT show me a glass floor and I'm a total wreck!

Glass floors freak me out and I don't like heights in general.

I'm also claustrophobic like when I have to go for an MRI - I have another one upcoming and it's not the noise which bothers me but being sealed into the machine, like a tomb.

Re: Do You Have A Fear Of Heights?

Whilst on holiday in Florida one year, we booked a 45 minute helicopter flight. It wasn't until we were up in the air that I looked down and noticed the helicopter had a glass floor - I felt queasy as I forced myself to look straight ahead all the time.

There are heights and there are heights. It's perfectly rational to feel afraid if you are high up and there is a slight risk of falling. This is the survival instinct.

But if you are in a skyscraper and totally protected on all sides why do your insides still turn to jelly? Mind over matter is my motto. (either that or keep your eyes firmly closed and take deep breaths!)

I had one of these scans once and it didn't bother me at all because I just kept my eyes shut the whole time. It's just like being in a car or on a train. Being on a bullet train must be the same. You just have windows.

The only thing I have a real phobia about is the idea of pot holing. I had a chance to do it once and categorically said no way. That's my phobia. They say it goes back to being born. I can well believe it. It's apparently the most traumatic experience of our lives but we block it out.
