More than 1,000 driving bans given to children

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-43044822

More than 1,000 driving bans were issued in 2017 to children not legally old enough to be behind the wheel.

The number of disqualifications for children aged 16 and under rose to 1,024 last year, compared with 696 in 2014, according to DVLA figures.

Children as young as 12 were among those banned, with 33 disqualifications issued in total during 2017 for those aged 13 and under.

Motoring group the RAC described the figures as "the tip of the iceberg".
I have often wondered when I've seen a driver barely visible over their car's steering wheel .....

Omah, l thought that figure was high, as l have never seen ‘children’ driving.
Do they go out in the early hours of the morning? Or, are they kids who steal cars or, ‘borrow’ their parent’s car?

Re: More than 1,000 driving bans given to children

I was knocked down by an 10 year old back in 1996 I thought at first it was a run away car. Laying their in the road it was surreal as this little person got out of the drivers seat and started yelling at me for not looking where I was going. I must add he mounted a pavement and ploughed through a fence to get me ! But still my fault according to him.

I've watched his progress over the years he has never held a driving licence but also never not had access to a car that he drives badly and fast.

Looking back what might have stopped him would have been take his parents car away, make his parents control him, banning him made no difference at all.

Here are the DVLA figures:

Those figures are only for those caught and convicted - many more escape capture .....

I have no idea when most of the offences take place, but I'd guess in the evening/at night .....

Boy, 13, caught driving car with toddler and mum inside

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england...shire-43181608

The teenager was stopped in Peterborough at 11:00GMT by a team from the Cambridgeshire, Bedfordshire and Hertfordshire Road Policing Unit.

When officers pulled the car over, they were told by those inside that it was "only a short journey".

A spokesman for police said the woman in the car was the mother of the toddler and related to the 13-year-old.

He said officers were looking at "numerous offences" in the case.
Was he, perhaps, running a local taxi service .....

Don't understand this really, how can you disqualify someone from driving who are disqualified anyway through age? Can't really see the point of it ....

AFAIK, the disqualification period starts when the teenager turns 17.
