Re: China gets added to the avoid list

Dont know how to reply to this topic as its taking animal rights and life style and Capital Punishment.

First point.

Bi Polar is a condition that might and maybe should be/or not considered as a Mental condition, in the old days was called Manic depression.

Churchill ran this country in WW2 suffering from this and so did Spike Milligan,If they had committed any crime should they have been let off or even giving a lesser sentence as prescribe in a country for natives

Steven Fry suffers from this condition as well and did time in prison for Fraud, was not used in his defence as it had nothing to with his crime so he served a sentence prescribed by law.

Second point.

Drug dealers/smugglers/users are out and out scum and I for one would not lose any sleep if these scum where executed, it would make a better world for the most of us.

Third point

Would love to see the Death Penalty brought back as a hell of a lot of innocent people would still be alive to day(Look up how many people have been killed by murders relised from prison)

Loved the way G Brown (and the war monger Blair) tries to save the life a drug smuggler and calls the Chinese barbaric and gives a death sentance to British Youths in Afghanistan.

I'm sure you've all seen they executed a British man who his family say has a mental condition (I mean come on, he thought he'd be made a famous pop star in China!!).

Not to mention how they kill (or order from Russia) bears for their paws and gall bladder, for their silly 'witch' potions or how they slaughter dogs for 'food'!

And one of the people the BBC talked to in the streets made me so angry - he said well our people face execution so why shouldn't foriegners... like that makes it ok!?! ARGH!

I really do despair sometimes - why is the world full of so many nasty, selfish, and dumb people!

/Rant over!
Hi Azz,
I have this rant almost evry day, you've raised a number of issues, but if I may I'll just concentrate on one, the breeding of Newfoundland dogs for the furs is still being done despite UN sanctions and EU diplomatic pressure, it's horrific the animals are often beaten to death 'cos it's the cheapest way to kill them.

Sadly in the last 15 - 20 years the worlds major economies have 'discovered' China as a low cost production centre and unfortunately I can't see that changing.

People go there on holiday packages and are escorted round the ancient Chinese landmarks (Like the great wall) and come back thinking that modern day China is like the ancient China, it is NOT but you'll never get most people to understand this.

You ask why the world is full of so many nasty, selfish, and dumb, people, and the answer is because (unpleasant as it may be to acccept) humans (Most of them anyway) are nasty, selfish,
and dumb, we are all just animals fighting our own corner and really the bottom line is we look after ourselves first and to hell with anyone else.

There are exceptions, (as there always are) but to be perfectly honest I often think that humans have become too numerous on this planet and a good 'cull' by some far off civilisation from another planet would be a good thing

OK I've probably been watching too many Startrek movies but you know what I mean.

Re: China gets added to the avoid list

Interesting thread and as somebody said it's gone off in ten directions at once, so difficult to answer without a couple of pages worth.

Just addressing Losos's last point, I think it's pretty much inevitable that, sometime or another, there will be a mighty happening, either a huge epidemic, an asteroid strike, huge volcano/tsunami or something, to decimate the human population. Not a nice thought, when we think of ourselves and our families, but we can't continue increasing at the current rate.
Look at this

Scarey stuff!

Not only is it not easy, it's darn near impossible.

I have given up buying tools that I know are made and tested in China, apart from any moral issue the quality control is rubbish and the tool might be cheap but doesn't last and costs more in the long run.

The huge difficulty I and everyone has is those products which are lets say 80% made in China and then have 20% value added in our own country (USA / UK or EU) most of this 20% being inspection and quality control, the label can then say made in USA or made in UK or it might say assembled in USA / UK and no ordinary shopper can tell where the bulk of the product is made.

I wish I could buy more tools made in USA they are less costly and far better quality than most of the ones in UK and all the famous factories (e.g. Record) no longer produce tools in UK 'tho they still sell under that name and are in fact using Chinese parts.

There was an interesting article today about manufacturers who had moved production abroad bringing it back to the UK. Best news for ages

Flippin heck DM that really is scary, well it is for anyone who expects to be around in 50 or so years (Not me that's for sure)

Yes, Azz's thread has ten or more componants and I can't answer all of them. I am constantly upset by the animal treatment issue and the lovely Newfoundland dogs in particular.

Thanks for showing us that graph.

Happy New Year Losos!

I had been quite content that my children had no children, thiking in a sort of perverse way "Well, I think those I love will be OK and will live to die in their beds"
Now, although I am absolutely totally incredibly pleased and excited and delighted that a grandchild is on the way, at the back of my mind remains a little niggle "What sort of world will s/he inherit and will they have a happy life and a peaceful death"
Ever heard the Paul Simon song 'Maybe I Think Too Much - that's me

I support that, let's hope it continues, I really would urge anyone who buys tools or machinery to look at the 'whole life' costs and it will be very quickly realised that initial price is not everything.

I like Paul Simon, a much underated singer IMO.

I am sure your grandchildren will have a good life, we can only do for them now what is within our control, as you say we can't think too much about the future. Happy New Year to you too, I wish all the OFF's a HAPPY HEALTHY (and maybe prosperous)NEW YEAR.

OMG I was only going to be 10 minutes onhere this morning Have to go now and do some 'work'
