Re: Poetry please.

That was certainly very true Tiff, I am in the next county, and it was quite Stormy yesterday. I see black clouds gathering today.

Re: Poetry please.

All this stuff about RAIN reminds me of Somerset Maughams short story of that name & the vicar and the much maligned lady of the night SADIE THOMPSON/

Anyone read it eh?

I always felt that she was used badly y those who should have done better./

Re: Poetry please.

Sorry young Robert, I have not read it.
I know this little gem mind.

THE RAIN is raining all around,
It falls on field and tree,
It rains on the umbrellas here,
And on the ships at sea.
Stevenson, Robert Louis (1850–1894).

Quinquireme of Nineveh from distant Ophir
Rowing home to haven in sunny Palestine,
With a cargo of ivory,
And apes and peacocks,
Sandalwood, cedarwood, and sweet white wine.

Stately Spanish galleon coming from the Isthmus,
Dipping through the Tropics by the palm-green shores,
With a cargo of diamonds,
Emeralds, amethysts,
Topazes, and cinnamon, and gold moidores.

Dirty British coaster with a salt-caked smoke stack
Butting through the Channel in the mad March days,
With a cargo of Tyne coal,
Road-rail, pig-lead,
Firewood, iron-ware, and cheap tin trays.

Re: Poetry please.

Lovely young Robert.
I must search out a similar one that had me stumped for a while.
Words we no longer use, I just love them and love researching the origins.

One of my absolute favourites. Had to recite it - from memory - for my elocution exam when at school. Glad to say I passed with flying colours.
