Fourteen and a half million people tuned in to watch Nadiya win...

More people watched the Great British Bake Off final than voted Tory In the election .

More people watched it than watched the cup final.
How do you reckon 14 and a half million people watched just to see her win?
What a smack in the face for all the other contestants.
It's a baking competition, not Get Me Out of Here ...live from Syria.
No one knew she was going to win did they?

Anyway .. what did she bake?

Re: Islam in the news for the right reasons.

Iīve never watched this baking competition, or whatever it is, but I fail to see why this woman is suddenly being heralded as someone who can solve the mass refugee problem. Iīve just been looking at some of the media reports and it appears that for some reason, the fact that she is a muslim woman, with a handsome supportive husband and lovely family seems to be more important than the fact that she won a competition. I, so far at least, havenīt found reports of previous winners having their families photographed and written about, I wonder why.

The fact remains she is a woman, muslim or not, she has won a baking competition, she has not won a competition to be an ambassador for changing peoples minds about the current situation, at least not as far as I am aware. I am sure winning the competition must make her happy, and quite right too. I also note the articles about this stating that many women are more interested in her husband than her. Lets hope that all the adoration heīs getting doesnīt go to his head and ruin their idyllic lives.

I doubt people are going to change their minds about this situation, you need only read the comments under articles to see how upset, worried and frightened people are about this immigrant situation. A few good PR stories wonīt make any difference to the way so very many people feel.

All the previous winners have been written about some more than she, and no one said she would change the refugee crisis I think you may be in the wrong thread as this one is not about that at all.

Yes they saw her win and I would suggest many like us joined her with tears too as she realised what she had done.
Her wedding cake won it in the end for her although she had apart from one disastrous bake when she tried to use bubble gum flavouring been pretty consistent all through the competition.

Well i wasn't one of the 14 and a half million .
Good heavens arent we fat enough as a nation without sitting on a sofa watching people make horribly sugary confections.
No matter who bakes them .
although I might make an exception for Daniel Craig or Hugh Jackman

Clearly!

And I was only by accident . (see above)

You are a bunch of grumps!!!
All I'm saying is it captured the nations hearts and it was a pleasure to watch.
You all carry on with your negativity!

OH and I did watch and yes it was nice to see a shy woman who really had very low confidence win such a public competition.

It was also nice to see her family there cheering and supporting her efforts.

Her religion had no bearing on that.
