Re: Polite discourse vs hostility and rudeness

I am amazed this has run to 12 pages when there is far less smut or aggro here than on any comparable site I've seen in the last fifteen years online.
Try some of the Yank sites !

Aussie gums bud with vulgarity very occasionally and mud, inglorious mud, is sometimes slung by another.

But hey, we're grown-ups. Move on.
Rightly or wrongly, you'll often find that the threads in which there is "robust debate" very often attract the most interest.
Many (most?) people actually like a bit of blood on the walls.
Just look at the silly "reality" TV shows.

Serial whingers may have a field day with the "Report" function but I'm sure the unfortunate Mods can separate the wheat from the chaff.
Wouldn't be one for quids (well, maybe if there were enough quids)

Oooohhh that was a very nice quick reply Honey.
I am off to bed soon, and now I shall be able to sleep nicely, instead of being kept awake all night worrying!

Pumicestone.
I am not surprised at all that this thread has attracted 13 pages and 126 comments.
After all, the thread was started by the owner of the forum.
And me being a Shop Stupid and Works Convener for over 30 of my working years, this is not the first time I have seen people sucking up to the Boss!

And on that note...

Different people have different views.
what upsets one wont upset another.
what one finds rude another one will find amusing.
if you don't like a thread then leave it.
there is plenty of variety to keep everyone happy, and lets not forget, variety is the spice of life.
we should be grateful for the freedoms that we are allowed here. this thread would have been closed down by now on my previous site!

Not just because I'm a rude American..."Hey who the **** are you calling rude??? Hey atso!"...but really this is one of the most polite and least confrontational sites I've ever been on.

I like this idea
Usually if I think a post is good I just quote it and say well said
