Linda, it was Swimmy saying that shopping centres are safer than shops in the street that made me wonder why the difference. Hence I thought of that reason.
Another reason I thought of was they could make a quicker get-away after a crime if a car was nearby in the street, but they couldn't do that in a mall.

Just to lighten the mood a little, did anyone see the report about the two young men who took in a man who had collapsed outside their house?
They gave him a hot drink and some food and chatted to him. Turns out he was an escaped prisoner on the run from the police a convicted rapist. They kept talking to him and he thanked them for their kindness saw the futility of his situation and turned himself into the police....
I loved that their kindness and generosity brought out the best in him too and he did the right thing. Most people even those who do bad things are not usually rotten to the core.
