Thanks Barry.
Is your greenhouse heated?

We've got another cold snap from tonight and over the weekend forecast, so I daren't put anything out just yet.

Re: Seed sowing

My 'first early' potatoes are chitting nicely in the spare bedroom but the ground is to cold and wet for planting . Heaven knows when I will get the potatoes in the ground, not this month I fear.

No it's not heated Mups, we just use a horticultural fleece to cover the seedlings but if a hard frost is expected then I have a paraffin heater that I can light to keep a couple of degrees off.

Re: Seed sowing

reading all the posts for gardening makes me quite wistful, envious even, now I have given up my garden by downsizing in 2015.
In addition to my gardens of the past, I had an allotment of 10 rods, the traditional sized plot.

I trained to go into horticulture 1959-1964 but was lured into retail for another 30 years, before returning to my first love as a freelance self-employed garden care specialist.

Back to the plot, no pun intended. When I see these posts, my mind wanders off and I think

January tidy up
February, sow parsnips, plant shallots
March, sow brassicas in seed bed
April onions
May 8th Runner beans

happy days

Nice sentiments Robert. Do you have any community gardens close by? They are becoming popular in Germany where people get together to grow flowers and vegies. Might be a way of keeping your hand in, Just a thought.

The only thing that worries me a bit is they tend to go leggy on the windowsills, no matter how much I turn them.
When I pot the tomatoes on, I will bury them deep, but it's still annoying to see them shooting up all long and thin.
What do you do?
Hi Mups

You might remember I planted some Monkey Musk Mimulus seeds directly from the plant. They have survived on the window sill so far and yesterday I potted five of them. They look quite healthy but as you say, they are quite weak at the base. Not sure what I'm going to get if hey survive either because I have read that you don't always get what you expect.

Yes, I have 12ft of windowsill brimming with plants. No theme, in fact, I have a pot which I mulched with acorns last year, the plant died but the acorns germinated & now I have an oak forest bonzai.

Guten Tag Kev60,
thanks for your kind comments, I hadn't thought of that, I'll make enquiries.
Fortunately, my 3 grown up kids 44, 42 & 33 all have inherited my love of gardens I am their advisor

Yes I do remember those seedlings, dongles.
I suppose if worse comes to worse you haven't lost a great deal, but if you do get even a couple flowering it will have made your patience worthwhile and fun.
