UK HMRC Useless

Ever tried getting through to them on the phone? No, well don't bother. We had a tax query and all you do is speak to a machine to doesn't understand what you want.

Why can't one just get to talk to a person? After being offered about 100 options that were not applicable to our question we just gave up.

No wonder people give up paying any tax due.

Re: UK HMRC Useless

I am afraid that even government sections, who got most things right, are trying to cut costs by reducing staff....as most businesses already have. This means that customer service is slipping in most places.
From 2004 to 2010, I ran a book keeping service from home and did most of my clients tax returns. I was surprised to realize that many of them were owed tax refunds....but back then I could discuss it with a member of staff and get refunds sent to my clients.
How happy I am that I needed to give up my business when I was diagnosed with cancer, because I couldn't have given up when dealing with a customers tax affairs!

I have tried contacting them a few times by phone, email and letter but gave up. There was ONE occasion where they called me on my mobile, I was so shocked I didn't know what to say to them.
