Indie/Alternative Music
Does anyone else on this forum enjoy indie/alternative music? I couldn't find a topic devoted to it, so I started a new one.
I classify indie/alternative music as music that generally doesn't hit the top 40 or isn't generally featured on commercial radio or television shows very often (or at all in many cases.) Sometimes college radio stations will play alternative/indie music, but I don't count that.
The bulk of music I listen to belongs in this category. I've found most of the music in this category on Pandora.com (which I think is US only) and in the past on mp3.com (which used to have a much wider selection), on college radio and going to random live shows in San Francisco.
There are lots of different types of indie/alternative music but I tend to prefer the music that falls into the pop, rock, folkish and punkish areas. I generally don't like hardcore punk, but do like pop and rock with touches of punk.
One reasonably well known band that used to be alternative is The Pixies. I've enjoyed them since their early days but tend to be drawn to more pop like music these days.
Here are some of the artists I love that I consider alternative or indie who have at least one or more songs in the list of songs I love the most.
