Hi

Yes Tpin, I appreciate that.

I omitted Afghanistan because there was a certain logic to the action taken there.

My fault for not making myself clear.

Re: Syrias Disappeared :The case against Assad

The more fuss and pressure being put on President Putin to turn against Assad will only determine him to stick out against it. Putin will not like the west telling him what he should/should not do,President Trump is drumming up war in America ,and we in Britain will be drawn into it ,as usual. When will we get a Primeminister who is not a puppet to American President ?

Re: Syrias Disappeared :The case against Assad

They were saying on newsnight that now with brexit we will have to be even closer to the US to have any global influence. They say we should be like Norway, but how does that tally with being part of G7 and a nuclear power? Thornberry is certainly a good counter for Johnson. Yesterday advice on growing carrots for poor fat kids, today talking of how world leaders like Britain because they have been to school here and how that makes us influential....

Hi

Why should we be be so fixated on being a World Power?

Why should some of us, including politicians, be so fixated on the UK being so influential in the World?

We are no longer the manufacturing hub of the World, times change.

It was inevitable that those who supplied us the raw materials would eventually set up their own industries and produce the goods themselves.

We are a small island with limited raw materials and very expensive power costs.

Mass production is not something that we can compete with.

If you look back, you see what you want to see, much better to look to the future.

Our assets are our people, our designers. scientists, engineers, chemists.

People bang on about German Engineering, especially cars.

The pinnacle of automotive engineering is FI.

Even Mercedes are based here in the UK for that.

We can build on that, invest heavily in what we are good at.

What we have got to learn is how to make the most of it, without giving it away for free.

Once we leave the EU we will be free of a myriad of rules, free to invest heavily in start ups, with the proviso that we share the rewards.

To my mind it is time to look forward, to plan and invest it what we are and what we could be.

It is not time to look back and wish for past glories.

Re: Syrias Disappeared :The case against Assad

we can become a place of excellence
James Dyson has just announced he is opening a university of engineering in Wiltshire.
We can't become a major manufacturing force again because we don't have armies of cheap labour we have certain standards and these have to be paid for . In the days when manufacturing was king our factories depended on the labour of the poor who worked for low wages in poor conditions. You can't have it all ways .

Why should we be so fixated on becoming insignificant in the World? Do you think that is what people wanted when they voted leave last year? Retreating into nothingness was not part of the plan for Britain and I really fail to understand why anyone who loves this country would want that.
