As a child, I once went on holiday for a week at Skipsea (where?).

There was nothing there, just sea and sand.

Many years ago, before we lived at the coast, we holidayed in a caravan at Ulrome near Skipsea. It was whilst on that holiday we made up our minds to live on the east coast so put our house up for sale, packed in our jobs and bought a guest house! No regrets!

Re: Anyone from East Yorkshire?

Hi floyd - visited Hull in 1999 to catch up with some old HK friends - they ran a small jewelry shop close to the bus station in the city center I think [bill and lyn] if you see them at all say hello - I can Pm my email address to you for them if there is a connection

Hull seemed a bit dull in those days and a strong pervading smell of fish all around. we went to the markets and browsed around.

bill and lyn took us out for dinner one night into the surrounding countryside and I was amazed. 20 mins out from hill and waving fields of hay and corn - beautiful countryside and a lovely ancient pub - can't remember the name.

welcome

Ah, but the surrounding countryside isn't exactly Hull, is it?

The same situation pertains in Bradford. Shit City. But go out of town for a few miles and you're in beautiful countryside and very up-market towns - Ilkley, for example.

Nice story Gumbud, but alas, I don't know this couple. Big city Hull. Couple of million people there, so it would be a long shot.
There has been a lot of redevelopment around the place, especially for next year's City of Culture "celebrations", and the jewellery shop you mention has probably long gone, as has the bus station. Big new bus and train interchange there now.

Hornsea is great. Nothing much there, but nice and relaxing for a couple of hours.

Beverley is about three miles from where I live. Nice town, good pubs but very snooty people.
