Re: House martins

First snatched attempt at photos. I'll get better ones if the sun comes out one evening and the lighting is better and I get my tripod out. But I think the triplets are very cute

Re: House martins

Congrats beat me to it, ive not seen many martins this year. And the nest that existed in the area i lived was removed last year by the house owner, after they fledged,

Re: House martins

Are they the birds that swoop low across the fields in the evening or are they swallows?

That would be mainly swallows Tess, House Martins tend to be more urban.

Last year's nest was destroyed by the winter weather, but they came back and built another one.

But I'm very rural. So Tess could be seeing house martins. They do seem to have a fairly distinctive flight, not unlike swallows. I've had to stop leaving my back door open because twice now I've had two swallows flying in, presumably looking for nesting sites.

Swallows have longer tails and sort of rusty breasts, whereas house martins have white chests and rumps with shorter forked tails.

Re: House martins

It's difficult to see what these are, just as it's getting dark they swoop and dive over the field and bushes nextdoor, I thought they were bats at first.
