One person is the bulldog and stands in the middle of the play area (playground or part thereof). All the remaining players gather at one end of the area. When the bulldog shouts "Go", everyone must run to the other end without being tagged (brought down to the ground by any means possible) by the bulldog. If you are tagged you become an extra bulldog and help in the next go. If you reach the other end you cannot be tagged until the next go.

The bulldog then shouts "Go" again and everyone dashes back to the other end.

Repeat this process until one player is left as the winner (survivor).

Yes, British Bulldog was played in Edinburgh schools, certainly up to the mid 70s when I was around 10, but it was banned.

Re: Buggy Warning

What about 3-sticks?

Any remember 3-sticks?

Simple game. 2 teams. One tennis ball and 3 small sticks or ideally 3 old wooden pegs.

The 3 pegs were placed at the base of a wall, 2 vertically and the 3rd on top like a cricket stump. Basically making the shape of the Pi symbol.

One team are the throwers/runners whilst the other team are the catchers.

The Throwers line up and each take it in turn to throw the tennis ball at the pegs from an agreed distance. It's quite difficult as the pegs are small.

If the entire team fails to hit the pegs then the teams swap over.

If a person manages to hit the pegs/sticks then the Throwers quickly run away and the catchers seize the tennis ball and go after them.

The catchers try to throw the tennis ball at any of the runners and if they succeed that team member is out.

Any of the runners can try to get back to the pegs/sticks and re-assemble them. If they succeed then they win.

The catchers must therefore always keep one eye on the sticks and have a "back stop" person stood nearby who they can quickly throw the ball to if a Runner makes a play for the sticks.

Fun game. Whiled away many play periods.
