Autonomous vehicle

The first reported fatal crash involving a self-driving vehicle and a pedestrian in the US. Who is responsible for this, how can technology predict what a person is going to do and prevent a collision.

Re: Autonomous vehicle

It's a nonsense really. Ultimately you need to clearly distinguish between pedestrian areas and autonomous vehicle track ways. No different to railway lines.

Re: Autonomous vehicle

I heard on the radio that Uber is withdrawing from its self-driving programme because of this.

Re: Autonomous vehicle

As an ex-Black Cab driver i'm dead against the way Uber seem to be trying to take over the market. Even more so with their plans to have driverless cars. There has just been a report on the news that one of their self-driving cars has been involved in an accident and killed a woman who was a pedestrian.

If you phoned for a taxi and a driverless car turned up, would you get in ?

Definitely not, I would be afraid it wouldn't stop where I wanted it to

Re: Autonomous vehicle

I would never wish to be in a car, which didn't have a human driver in control.

Re: Autonomous vehicle

When I heard earlier trials the technology couldn't recognise white vehicles as vehicles I thought it was doomed. Poor woman and her family I hope they compensate them well, not that it can bring her back.
