Baking parchment is similar to waxed paper and it could be used as a substitute if you don't mind not having pretty paper.

I use vinyl wallpaper on shelves and to line draws , you can sometimes pick up an end of batch roll quite cheaply and in pretty patterns. I have used some Laura Ashley wallpaper left over from previous decorating.

I haven't seen that for years - my Mum used to use it all the time. I don't remember it being decorative though - maybe she just used the waxed, tracing-like paper.

I do admit to using the scented papers in linen drawers though . . . Crabtree & Evelyn's Nantucket Briar is a perenial favourite

My mum always used wallpaper oddments for lining her kitchen cupboards, changing them regularly if they became stained.
