Re: Drs Receptionists

I went to my doctors practice which is a large one in the town.
I was told it would be at least two weeks to see my own doctor but if I came at 8 am in the morning I might be able to see another doctor. They used to tell me to ring at 8:30 am but I don't think they do this anymore as the lines where blocked all morning and most of the day. The reason they say come at 8:00 am is because at that time you may get a place in the queue outside the main door which they don't open till 8:30 am which means that you get a place in the queue to see a receptionist.

If you are on repeat medication you used to be able to register with the pharmacy who used to get a repeat prescription for you when your meds were running out. They have stopped this now and you have to call in to request a repeat or go online. This does not speed up the prescription process any faster than the three to five days it took before.

When you see a specialist at hospital he writes to you and your doctor but if he changes your meds there will be no change made despite the specialists letter to the doctor unless you go into the surgery and see your own doctor first. eg another appoint went to be made.

I don't bother trying to see my doctor anymore and instead use the COPD nurse or the diabetic nurse.

When you go to my doctors practice the admin staff well outnumber the medical staff.

I know, it's odd isn't it Ted. I believe it is the same with the local hospital too, yet it works fine for other numbers, so it can't be a paid for thing.
I think they must have done something to stop people jamming the lines with call-backs.

I will ask next time I go in there though.

BTW, if you are more than 5 minutes late, they refuse to see you too. Doesn't matter when the doc keeps you waiting for 45 mins in the waiting room though!

TED, I owe you an apology.

Ringback used to be with my phone, but I have just checked and since I changed supplier, it is NOT included in the package I now have. It costs an extra £3.75 p.m. if I want it. So I do beg your pardon.

Mups!

No pardon needs to be begged!

Tedc

Note:-

How about - if you fall ill, and need the doc for a short while, pay for the service and then cancel it when you are better.

Probably cheaper than calling, call after call, all morning!

Re: Drs Receptionists

My doctors are very good; I've had no problem phoning at 8am if I need an emergency appointment.

Also, if you phone later in the day they will get a doctor to phone you back to determine whether you need to be seen or to adjust any prescriptions etc.

Re: Drs Receptionists

I must say the first receptionist was not nasty, she just kept saying that there were no appts, for friday.I should have insisted that she speak to the Dr and tell her there was a problem.I just cant understand how there were no appts,in the morning yet there were in the afternoon,I can only surmise that they keep some back

Re: Drs Receptionists

I have always been to see the diabetic nurse (er, she's not diabetic; I am) every 6 months.

My last visit was in May and so, not having received any appointment so far, I telephoned on 28th November to arrange an appointment, explaining all the details of course.

The receptionist informed me that the two girls who arrange appointments with the diabetic nurse will call me back. It did cause me to wonder, at the time, why a single nurse required two clerks to arrange her appointments, but didn't pursue the matter.

No call back, so I telephoned again on the 29th only to listen to a recorded message informing me that the lines were closed that day. Why?

Consequently, I telephoned again on the 30th only to be told by the receptionist that the (two) girls who arrange the appointments were in a meeting (presumably a very important meeting, as it required the presence of both of them!) and that the two girls will only give appointments when they become available and that my appointment is likely to be some time in the new year. I did advise her that the diabetic nurse had asked me to ensure I had an appointment after six months.

I have not pursued the matter. As long as my repeat prescriptions continue to be forthcoming, I am quite happy not to waste my time running about after them, as I am happy with my condition at the moment anyway.

I am looking forward to the next forthcoming routine appointment with the doctor, which I believe is necessary to ensure that I still receive repeat prescriptions. If I haven't since been seen by the diabetic nurse, I wonder how many clerks are assigned to making his appointments (when they are not in meetings)!
