I don't know if she was single or not, but another angle is, some women do not ever want to see the ex-lover again.
They will accept his money and maintenance payments, but don't want him in their life, especially if they have met someone else by then.
For all we know, maybe it was the mother herself who kept T.J. away from her baby son? Maybe he would have seen him occasionally if he had been allowed - we don't know.
Also, for all we know, maybe it was a condition set by Tom's wife, that she would forgive him as long as he stayed away from the woman. That's feasible.
LIke I said in the beginning - much to consider, and we don't know both sides.

There is IMO no comparison with the kindly Paul O Grady to Tom Jones .There are many stars / and none starts who have cared for their ex marital children .
And just as many who have ignored them.
However this does make it right .
Children have a right to know who fathered them and also have a right to some consideration by them.

You do hear of children ( not of well known people ) who still wonder and long for their biological parents )
It's not the act of adultery it's the consequences that seem to been visited on the only innocent one in the equation the child.
Perhaps there is something in the old saying re the sins of the father

But he does know, Muddy, and presumably always has, since the link said he used to play his Dad's music all day at 4 years old.
Another thing, we also don't know what his mother ever told him as he was growing up.
Some women hate their ex so much, they feed the child terrible poisonous lies about his/her father.
It doesn't mean it is true, it just the 'discarded partner' being vindictive.
Of course, T.J. could have been uncaring, irresponsible, and dodging his obligations for all we know, but I really can't judge him fairly on a one-sided newspaper report by someone who sold a story.
Do we know this young man was even sober when the reporter spoke to him?

I agree Mags.
It is what I have been saying from the beginning.
I will not condemn him from a few lines in a newspaper.
