Patience and nothing can't be unpicked and started again.

Over the years, all my animals have given me something to care about, plus companionship, exercise, protection, I've made like minded friends, and they also stop me putting myself first all the time, so probably less selfish I would say.

Re: what has your hobby taught you?

One of my hobby's was an accident, after a operation that left me a bit on the stiff side in my hand I decided I would try to write a story but my big problem is only one hand works but what the hell, I sat at my computer and typed chapter 1.
The first problem was to get capital letters but used Caps Lock, the mouse was impossible as it went every ware, I tried a tracker ball and that worked.
Months went by and my hands improved I can now use my left hand thumb some times my finger.
Well now I am on chapter 37 and my sister proof reads my work.
So what has it taught me, not to give up on what I wont to achieve, to keep my brain active, to appreciate my wife for her help and understanding, for my sister for her office skills and that after 7 years we are now talking.

Re: what has your hobby taught you?

Learning from hobbies:-

Cooking - love cooking, especially for friends, and it has taught me to rise to a challenge, experiment with different flavours/herbs/spices, and to be aware of nutritional values.

Dressmaking - to assess my own body shape and design clothes according. Wear what suits and is comfortable - not to follow fashion. That quality clothes can be unpicked and made into something entirely different more than once !!

Card making - taught me patience, design, and new skills such as decoupage, quilling, heat embossing, Iris folding etc.,

Nature watching - the joy of life !

Life is much more fun with hobbies !

Martial arts taught me restraint.

Photography taught me patience.

Archery taught me control.

Art taught me acceptance.

A wise and concise way to put it and this has made me think.

College and career taught me how to observe, in detail (minute detail).

My hobby, which was photo restoration and colourising, taught me computer skills and another way to hone my art.

A love/hate hobby which was 'all encompassing' for several years.

Lol ... friggin iPad is teaching me that typing quickly with my digit is NOT necessarily the best way.

My other ongoing 'hobby' ... observing people and the way they present themselves/react ... continues to fascinate

In the winter I work on making Model Wooden Boats, I think i keep superglue in business. Im afraid that I have to do some small modifications, my fingers are not supple enough for some of the very delicate work on the rigging etc.
