Which chemicals do you not use, phosphates and nitrogen, ? Or any others that are not already present in the soil?

And just what is it that makes dairy products organic ?
Dairy farmers rely on high yield nitrogenous fertilisers to grow the grass to feed the cattle.
They also depend on vetinary care for the animals and the use of lots of chemicals and antibiotics etc.
There is no such thing as Organic Milk and Butter !

Re: Organic or not?

I can see the logic on both sides. Obviously there is quite a degree of exploitation in the industry. It is correct, small organisations who do supply untreated foods can't afford the organic title, but the food is just the same.
As for things like honey, indeed organic is dubious, better with Raw, unheated honey, honeycomb or local.

Dairy foods, its more to do with the use of hormones and antibiotics. The cows are milked less frequently, spend more time grazing outside and reproduce less, so aren't as stressed.
Due to health problems. I have sheep's yogurt, etc which is more expensive than organic anyway.

Foods with thick skins, avocados, melon, pineapples, bananas, kiwis etc
there is probably little point in organic.
As for cabbages, onions, sweetcorn, peas etc that don't tend to get sprayed much anyway, again not necessary.

I suppose its partly common sense, but also personal experience, what you prefer. More organic foods are priced competitively now and if you prefer the taste of one over the other, then that's the one for you.

Organic is something the advertising industry created....it does not, in reality, exist.

Re: Organic or not?

I do not see a great deal of point in buying organic--especially when it can cost a whole lot nmore than non organic food--as long as you are having fresh fruit and veg--that should be sufficient.

Re: Organic or not?

Friends of mine used to own an organic farm & nursery.
They had to to be inspected by people from the Soil Association every so often. They sold organic plants, vegetables, chicken eggs, and goose eggs (when in season).
The birds were free range, and the grass was NOT treated with chemicals, they rotated grazing land instead. Same with crops, they were rotated too.
I remember them once having rat problem, but they weren't allowed to put poisons down.

I buy their milk sometimes Aysa. They also do a lovely vanilla ice cream and tonight I had some of their frozen strawberry yoghurt - yummy.

Re: Organic or not?

Anything organic or chemically treated tastes better from a garden, or allotment as its fresher. I don't buy organic it's far too expensive for amount we get through but if I get offered anything from a garden or allotment I say a really big thank you and enjoy the taste difference.
