Actually I think someone mugged someone, grabbed their bag, burnt it after removing valuables and decided to ditch the phone as it was a cheap one and could easily be traced.
Well, I do live near Midsomer so I have experience in these things.

Actually Tess, I think htat is quite feasible, and did wonder much the same. I do think the ashes and phone were connected anyway.
