Now see what you've done Swims. You'd better make it up to her quickly.

Really enjoying "the Trouble with Goats & Sheep" by psychiatrist Joanna Cannon which was a super impulse buy. It's set in a cul-de-sac during the baking Summer of '76 and sensitively explores some very dark topics in a lighthearted way. It's her first novel and I do hope she writes more. Apparently also destined for a tv drama. I previously read "Girl Unknown" which was also a good read. I'd recommend both if you are looking for something you can't put down.

Re: What book are you reading now?

I generally do not read novels, except occasionally a classic. Currently I am reading Brush Up Your Bible by Michael Macrone. It is an explanation of various sayings, phrases, catch words, etc. that have come into the English from the Old and New Testament. It talks about the many (often inaccurate and distorted) translations and how the meanings have changed or phrases have been used by famous poets, writers, politicians, etc.

For example: "For now we see through a glass, darkly;...." KJV 1 Corinthians 13: 11-13 shows up in a Star Trek TV episode.

Re: What book are you reading now?

I have just read "The Purple Shroud" by Stella Duffy. About a slave/prostitute who rose to be Empress of Bysantium. At just 390 pages it is quick read and seethes with corruption, romance, riot and the dreaded plague !
