Doesn't mean we can't hope it will happen one day.

We don't live in a fairy tale world where the bad guys are always the ones who lose, and the good people control the world. We all think that we know the best way to do things, but none of us are prepared to compromise, or find mutually satisfactory ways to deal with opposing ideas...... and that is why wars will always exist.
I love this John Lennon song and wish it could happen, but human greed and their desire to control will always prevent it!

The crowd on the other hand tend to boo her and shout, she is always gently escorted from the area with her wreath.

But isn't that precisely what Rehab is doing - preventing this woman laying her wreath until everyone else has done so and gone away???

Re: White poppy ?

I used to believe things would change, but this is why we will always have war :

"The Scorpion and the Frog

A scorpion and a frog meet on the bank of a stream and the
scorpion asks the frog to carry him across on its back. The
frog asks, "How do I know you won't sting me?" The scorpion
says, "Because if I do, I will die too."

The frog is satisfied, and they set out, but in midstream,
the scorpion stings the frog. The frog feels the onset of
paralysis and starts to sink, knowing they both will drown,
but has just enough time to gasp "Why?"

Replies the scorpion: "Its my nature..."

Not sure of its purpose now as there are so many anti war organisations but they certainly seem to have people talking.

However.... it's not really relevant to Remembrance day. Or is it? I can't see how.

"Blood Swept Lands and Seas of Red" is still one of the most beautiful, haunting, reverent, and moving images I have ever seen. Some things the British do are unsurpassed in elegance, and this was one.

I didn't know that wearing poppies took place in America too. I thought it was solely a British thing, and possibly some other countries of our colonies.

Re: White poppy ?

Hi

British War dead are celebrated all over.

The Polish have a special day, and our war dead cemeteries there are immaculate and are decorated with poppies.

In Thailand, Kanchanaburi has the Bridge on the River Kwai Cemetery.

Again immaculate and ceremonies every year on Remembrance Day.

It is not an uniquely British thing.

They do not prat about with white flowers either, they are red, blood spilt.

The children go as well, to be taught to remember.

No because the Cenotaph in Whitehall, London has hosted the Remembrance Service for the past nine decades on the nearest Sunday to the 11th November.......and it is to remember those who died fighting for their country!
It was originally intended as a small part of the Peace Day events of July 1919, so if she wants to lay a wreath of white poppies promoting peace, she should lay it in July instead of insulting those who had gathered to remember those who had given their lives for the country in November!

It's nice to know that we are still highly regarded in some corners of the world.

Hear, hear.

As I said, a trendy lefty political statement. I'll have no part of it, and I can understand servicemen and ex-servicemen (and women) feeling the same way.

The red poppy was created in the US by Moina Michael and was adopted by the American Legion to commemorate American soldiers killed in the 1st Word War.
