I do think this was the motivation behind the living wage and hopefully will reduce this figure.

It seems pensions cost this country an enormous amount!Actual Government Welfare Spending

Pensions 42% £108bn

Incapacity, disability & injury benefits 16% £41bn

Uneployment benefits 1% £3bn

Housing benefits 10% £27bn

Family benefits, income support & tax credits 10%£44bn
17%

Personal social services and other benefits £34bn 13%
I'm always quietly amazed when people drag in the cost of Pensions... without thinking it through.
How many Pensioners are actually fit for work? By then most people either have some chronic health condition or some limiting illness.
I rather think the figure for Incapacity, disability & injury benefits would rocket.

I understand and sgree with your point
BUT my main point is that a huge chunk of welfare spending is paid to those in work because the huge revenue producing retailers in this country prefer to take a profit and pay dividends to shareholders than fairly pay their staff. And casually rely on the state to pick up the shortfall.

Hi

I agree with you and so did Cameron and Osborne, after all they put up the minimum wage considerably.

Personally I am off the opinion that the minimum wage should be increased even more.

Phew! At last we can agree. Whatever colour the political leanings who allowed it to go on for so long and become so expensive should be shot.
