Should we ban cat ownership.

Fox hunting is a leisure activity which, when legal, resulted in 21,000 to 25,000 animal deaths per year.

Owning a cat is also a leisure choice. They are not a necessity.

Cats in the UK, however, kill upwards of 250 million creatures per year - and not generally in a humane manner.

So, before fussing about foxhunting, should we not look closer to home to a much bigger issue of animal cruelty?

Re: Should we ban cat ownership.

Humans kill over a billion creatures per year in the UK having usually kept and killed them in a very inhumane way .

Eating animals is a choice not a necessity .

Should we also ban humans ?

I'm all in favour of looking closely at animal cruelty .

Hi Abby
There certainly are a few humans I would like to "ban". Even if it is only from this site.

Yes ban cats. Not on the grounds of animal cruelty - but because cats are a waste of space and there's a recession on.

Cats have their uses if they keep down vermin.

I agree, Abbey. Humans are the worst predators of all.

Ooh, venator, have you checked whether your 40 something might-be girlfriend likes cats?

Yes, or at least have all tomcats sterilised as soon as they're born to prevent them breeding out of hand. Cats should only be able to be purchased at recognised breeding centres then eventually the population may begin to recede allowing the bird population to thrive once more. These cats should also be chipped and if found to be causing damage like say crapping on my lawn or attacking the birds at my bird table, the owners could be prosecuted and fined.
