Oh don't be silly that isn't wealth? If I had a few million in the bank then I might consider I was wealthy. We are just reasonably comfortable, these days, my husband having worked his socks off to provide for us.

Re: Premium Bonds

I do get a bit irritated if I contribute to a finance board, and other posters assume I am boasting about my so called 'wealth'. I don't consider my husband and myself wealthy at all, just comfortable in our latter years if we don't go too crazy with the dosh.

My husband and I have been very careful with our money over the years trying to save as much as we spent. We have never over indulged ourselves. We have never propped up the bar of a pub like many do. The only time we have frequented one of those places is if we have had a meal in one. We haven't had exotic holidays, we would visit my home island once a year. When our children got older we took them on several educational trips abroad, more for their benefit than ours.

Nowadays, we spend little on ourselves, but try to help out our children if they need it, and give money to charity. We are also trying to ensure there is enough to pay for decent care homes if and when the need arises.

My mother's care home was £1200 per week. Good job we are putting money by for our homes.

Re: Premium Bonds

My baby sister was crowing last night as Ernie came up with £1000 this month, as well as £1000 last month! I haven't heard from Ernie yet this month.
