Ultra processed foods - link to cancer

This news story has appeared today. I've always felt less healthy eating these foods but this is really disturbing. As I can't eat gluten I've been forced to avoid many of these foods much as I would like to eat them. Will anyone here be throwing them out of their larder/fridge?

Same here, Meg. The only 'ready meals' in my freezer are those I make myself. Certainly don't use things such as Cuppa Soup or ready made custard - saw both those in the shopping basket photo.

Re: Ultra processed foods - link to cancer

Over the years if they have been cheaper or in the case of travelling around in a caravan we've used them pretty much. Ready made custard far more palatable than anything I produce, ready made yorkies the same. Cup a soup not a fan but my husband loves them along with pot noodles it's pretty much the only mixed food he will eat.

I've had cancer he hasn't.

I thinks it's a lottery and genetic predisposition to cancers.

Thank god I don't eat processed food, the only thing I eat from a can is bake beans, everything else I buy is fresh.

Re: Ultra processed foods - link to cancer

I'm pretty sure I have had everything shown in that basket at least once (in truth, a lot more). It doesn't surprise me that there is a link to cancers. I hardly ever look at the ingredients but when I do, I wonder why it contains certain things.

I don't think I will be throwing anything out though or not buying any of those in the future.

I really don't want to left eating just salad.

Re: Ultra processed foods - link to cancer

Unless we all eat a very basic diet, I think we all eat some kind of processed food. How many of you put tomato ketchup on your bacon sandwich? (Most bread, ketchup and bacon have been processed)

I am not suggesting they are safe, but I do think any damage is done because people become too dependent on too much processed food.

I cook from fresh most days, but I do have a lazy day occasionally and buy a takeaway or something that looks good in shop freezers. I am sure the additives in these foods are fairly safe, but just like everything else people enjoy...too much can be a danger!

Re: Ultra processed foods - link to cancer

Had a good look at the objects in the shopping basket...even cooking from scratch we use stuff like stock cubes and flour etc...

Ive just had a cupasoup...here are the ingredients, so which of these is so dangerous?
