Re: Feed the birds

I've been leaving the top of the composter in the garden so our two resident crows can also feed. I just took some kitchen scraps up there and the two crows were inside the composter. They launched themselves out and scared the poo out of me.

Re: Feed the birds

The birds seem to accept most of the things I put on our bird table, it is a good way of getting rid of anything beyond its sell by date, which occasionally happens.

It amuses me to see a neighbourhood ginger cat sitting under the table in the hopes of catching a bird, but I don't think it has got lucky yet.

Re: Feed the birds

We have Swans and Ducks on a pond not far from us. I get a grain mix for them called "Wild Things" It's the only grain I've come across that floats. The birds seem to love it.

Re: Feed the birds

Today I have had an influx of Redwings and Fieldfares along with my usual birds, so extra food has been put out. There are sunflower hearts, mixed seed, peanuts, fat blocks and niger seeds. I also soaked some seeded bread in melted lard, mixed in some seed and chopped up a ripe pear and put that out for the ground feeders.

Re: Feed the birds

I have been out several times today replenishing the bird feeding places .
Also giving them water which keeps freezing up .
I have loads of fat balls and a fat stick with insects as well but poor things it's horribly cold and windy out there.

We also had a Fieldfare in the garden this morning. It's the first one I have seen. He was really puffed up and nicking berries off a plant.

Re: Feed the birds

A couple of visitors this morning, the only two which stayed still long enough for me to photograph.
I've been using those big plastic saucers that you put under plant pots for water. When one freezes I swap it for another one.
