Re: When is right to remove a statue?
A LINK to the Mayor of New Orleans speech concerning why the statues are offensive.
Apparently many of these statues were of segregationists, secessionists, rebels against the country's government, equivalent in todays vernacular to 'remaniacs' , running against the majority of the voters.
Many of the statues have been erected relatively recently, at the time when 'bussing' and blacks were given the right to vote, we are talking of 1965 ish, pretty recent historically.
My solution would be to place such statues in museums with relevant other displays, such as slave shackles, lynching photographs, White only signs, buses with segregated seating............like "The good old days" because that is what the statues are celebrating.
