Exactly. Others have tried to destroy the parts of history they don't like.

Hitler was one.

Yet still they remain.

No one can beat the thought police...1984 took some time getting here but it has arrived....
Thought Police
noun
an organization that attempts to restrict ideas or impose opinions through propaganda, censorship, and other authoritarian techniques
After the statues, the history books will be burned, students will take over the schooling of all children, libraries and museums will destroyed, there will be a state religion no others will be sanctioned. The worship of the Leader will be all.

The Mantra will be ..." The world is yours, as well as ours, but in the last analysis, it is yours. You young people, full of vigor and vitality, are in the bloom of life, like the sun at eight or nine in the morning. Our hope is placed on you ... The world belongs to you." (Mao)
" if it offends burn it..destroy it, wipe it from memory". (Rehab)

Re: When is right to remove a statue?

A LINK to the Mayor of New Orleans speech concerning why the statues are offensive.

Apparently many of these statues were of segregationists, secessionists, rebels against the country's government, equivalent in todays vernacular to 'remaniacs' , running against the majority of the voters.
Many of the statues have been erected relatively recently, at the time when 'bussing' and blacks were given the right to vote, we are talking of 1965 ish, pretty recent historically.

My solution would be to place such statues in museums with relevant other displays, such as slave shackles, lynching photographs, White only signs, buses with segregated seating............like "The good old days" because that is what the statues are celebrating.
