Re: Ska/Bluebeat/Reggae and Northern Soul.

I'm managing to catch up on some of your music threads Longfellow, now that I am able to see and post videos.

Here are two of my favourites from when I was younger. First up 'My Commanding wife'. I had no idea Boris Gardiner went back that far (1970).

And from 1976, Pluto with 'Dat'.

My parents had 'Dat' on vinyl.

I was lucky growing up that my parents had a lot of friends from St Paul's and were heavily into soul and reggae.
Their record collection was all Motown, Stax, Island, Trojan and Greensleeves.
Lots of good Ska and bluebeat in their collection as well as much roots rock ..I also remember these classic pieces of tat on Big Shot records which I couldn't stop playing as a kid.........

I did too and I used to play it so much, I learned all the words.

My neighbour was from St. Lucia and used to have some great parties that sometimes went on for two days. The music was fantastic.

Ah, yes, Johnny Nash, what a great voice he had. I also loved 'Steer' it up.

Putting on UB40s Kingston Town is a criminal injustice against genuine reggae.

Now I know they are one of your favourites I will try and find some more for you Solo..
They are what I call soft reggae not to tinny when I just want to chill with it on in the background. Plus I have about 6 of their albums I will admit some are decent and some are crap.
My excuse is I am old and my hearing is going.

Some great moves in this video.

Old is no excuse for bashing your lug holes with UB40 when there is really good music you could be listening too.

If you want to crunch rock and reggae ...there's EDDY .

Re: Ska/Bluebeat/Reggae and Northern Soul.

I liked the majority of Eddie Grant's music.

I also liked the early UB40 stuff like Signing off but lost interest as time went on.
