Re: Leisurely Scribbles (part 5)
We watched the racing today in old Ted Burke’s house, it was his turn to provide the goodies for the afternoon, and well he can afford it too the miserable old git, he owns six properties in my locality and to look at him you’d give him a penny, saves every euro he gets, don’t know who he’s going to leave it all to, he has no family, but it won’t be the dogs home for sure.
Anyway today to give him credit he laid on a fine spread for the ten of us, it was a good day.
He was sitting beside me for most of the time, he had something on his mind and was trying to get up the courage to confide in me, I have a sort of St. Anthony face that people like to trust, worse fools them.
After a few brandies he opened up as I knew he would, God isn’t drink the great leveller, rich man poor man beggar man thief, everyone’s equal after a few jars.
It seems his new wife who’s only half his age brought her dog to live with them when they married a few months ago, nothing strange about that says you, well the dog is a German Shepard and he sleeps at the end of her bed, anytime Ted tries to get into the bed the dog growls viciously at him and he has to retreat to his own room, had I any suggestions he asked. God forgive me but all I could do was burst out laughing. He was not amused and after swearing me to secrecy he went over to annoy someone else. I keep laughing every time I think of him sneaking into her bedroom and the beast chasing him out again, serves him right dirty old devil.
Phyllis just asked me what am I laughing at, “Sorry love, but i’m sworn to secrecy”
