Re: Birds

Often observed this kind of behavior at nest sites for Great crested grebes, obviously something underwater nearby.

Re: Birds

Nom, if I haven't said it before, your work is wonderful to see! Camera or art works...I am a fan of yours.

Went to the pond yesterday and saw a Great Blue Heron...

I was sure he was going to fly and tried to get his take off but only got the tip of his tail...seldom see him there, so is a pleasure when I do.

A wild gander, biggest at the pond and boldest. Usually walks closer to my car then any others.

Re: Birds

Some birds do overcome their natural fear, usually hoping for a bit of easy food, your Blue Heron looks similar to our Grey Heron, nicely marked bird.

Re: Birds

More great pictures Shirley and Nom.

I have to admit to my ignorance of grebes - it's common for them to nest on the water?

Yes it is common to nest on water, in this case it was a Coots nest they took over. Sadly for them it was a bad year for rainfall and the nest was washed out 3 times.
