Re: A Very English Scandal - New BBC drama

Maybe because it’s condoned by politicians, the Home Office gave a grant of £70000 to P.I.E. in 2014 an organisation that advocates sex with minors.

From Wikki. You
A number of senior Labour Party politicians were linked in newspaper stories to PIE in December 2013, and again in February 2014, as a result of their involvement with the NCCL at the time of PIE's affiliation. The party's deputy leader, Harriet Harman, had been employed by NCCL as an in-house solicitor and met her husband, the MP Jack Dromey, then a member of NCCL's executive committee, while working in this capacity. In addition, Patricia Hewitt was NCCL's general secretary for nine years. The former chair of PIE, Tom O'Carroll, claimed the three had not attempted to expel PIE out of fear for the impact this might have on their careers at the NCCL.[47]
Why am I reminded of the last days of the Roman Empire?

Re: A Very English Scandal - New BBC drama

As far as I can establish, since the 1960's, most sex scandals have involved the Tory Party:

1960's - Profumo (Cons)/Keeler
1970's - Jellicoe (Cons)/Lambton (Cons), Thorpe (Lib)/Scott
1980's - Parkinson (Cons)/Keays, Archer (Cons)/Coghlan
1990's - Mellor (Cons)/de Sancha, Hayes (Cons)/Stone
2000's - Major (Cons)/Currie (Cons), Ron Davies (Lab)/badger, Mark Outen (Lib)/rentboy
2010's - Cyril Smith (Lib)/children

In recent times, politicians have been far more interested in corruption and sleaze .....

A fantastic drama, surprisingly funny too.

I'm blown away by Grant's acting, Wishaw too, just incredible performances from both men.

I would agree with that Rehab, but the sad fact is that anyone, who gains power, feels they have the right to be above the law. The world is changing, but sadly not for the better.

It's the ones involving children that are the worst.

Look up Keith Vaz on WIKII, there are far too many entry’s to post on here, a Labour politician who gets away with flouting laws that would put us in jail.

I would agree with you about the change, politicians no longer need an electorate, they can vote in pay rises, overturn referendums and walk rough shod over the populace....btw UJ before you start on the benefits of communism, I give you Stalin

The trouble with that old chestnut is that it relies on the assumption that all communists (or socialists) must also inevitably be stalinists.
