A weird patch

A really weird thing has happened this morning.

I was in the shower, turned round to let the water run down my back but the skin stung like mad between my shoulder blades.

When I got out the shower, I got two mirrors to try and see was was stinging and burning, and saw a bright red patch about 7" across!

I can't reach it properly, but managed to get some Aloe Vera gel on it half of it to try and soothe the skin, and took a Piriton incase it's an insect bite, but I haven't really a clue what it is.
I turned my nightie inside out incase there was a squashed insect inside - but nothing.

How can I wake up with what looks like a big 'burn' on my back? I can't see any centre to it like from a bite or sting, it looks just like my skin has been scalded.

I feel alright in myself, just my back is uncomfortable.

Really weird isn't it. Any ideas?

Re: A weird patch

It's difficult when alone trying to put creams on in awkward places isn't it mups . A couple of things went through my mind , firstly could it be sunburn and hopefully not this one , shingles . Hopefully it'll disappear soon and be nothing to worry about

Re: A weird patch

Mups it sounds like an insect bite, has the the Piriton helped?

If it doesn't improve/spreads/you feel ill in any way a trip to the doctor is called for.

I have an itchy rash down one side of my back which comes and goes, I am sure it is down to one of the medications I have to take because others users have the same thing but my GP says not.

It is almost impossible to put cream on but one thing I find does help to relive the irritation is laying on an ice pack or putting one in a thin towel and manoeuvring it into place then holding it there by sitting with my back against a chair.

Re: A weird patch

This is an unlikely reason for it, but you did say it is about 7", which is huge for an insect bite.

Yesterday you had to get Mups in the car to feed her, and I am sure you were not thinking clearly, so is there a chance that you may have grazed your back( possibly on the door frame) while trying to get her to eat in the car.
You may not have noticed the pain then, and shower gel on a new graze is likely to sting!

If it doesn't go soon, Mini Mups said that you must get it looked at.... because that is what you would do if it was her!

Shingles came to mind when I read your post, Mups

If it’s still there tomorrow, I would get it checked out.

Re: A weird patch

Of course it could simply be down to a bit of stress Mups. you have had a lot to deal with in the past few months. Rashes can be caused by worry but obviously if it doesn't improve, go see a doctor.
