My old recipe book

It was in the garage. It was a long time ago but here is my recipe for `Pale Ale`

It did OK-First prize in the `National`

7lb Pale Malt

6oz Crystal Malt

9oz Flaked Maize

500g Muscovado sugar(went metric there)

2oz Goldings

2oz Hallertau

I no longer drink beer-I`m buggared if I have to pay £5+ a pint.for `real ale` When I used to brew it

Re: My old recipe book

If I may ask any idea of your OG and what the % was at drinking?

OH has made pale ale a couple of times and it goes haywire he ends up with something at 8%

His other beers are fine at 4,5 and 5%.

Re: My old recipe book

ABV-around 5% and how many pints?-just under five gallons.

Bottled beer, like wine, needs to mature. It did win the 1984 `National` but it was pretty much perfect then. It only came 3rd in a regional show when it was still maturing.

So many memories is I sit here looking at a tatty old note book. I started with malt extract but soon realised I had to become a `masher` if I wanted quality.
