You soon get used to it. It's just like moving off again, except the car has shut off completely. You still use the clutch.
There is an override button though which switches the feature off.

I have "Stop-Start" switched OFF because I rarely drive in an urban environment and I am infrequently caught in traffic queues.

I am still not entirely convinced that the use of "Stop-Start" saves much fuel unless over significant mileage or that no harm is done to the car engine by increasing the number of starts over a lifetime by a factor of 10.

However, I do believe that the use of "Stop-Start" decreases emissions in urban areas and traffic queues so there is a benefit there.

Autocar has an interesting article on the subject:

Re: Pushbutton start and keyless entry

Practiced by the Swiss for decades.

I'm glad my car hasnt got it.....it drove me mad on the last 3 cars.

I remember the days when I was chuffed if the heater worked or if the radio didn't crackle when the wipers were on.

its so nice to have a car that sticks two fingers up to the nanny state we have become.....is a joy to drive hard....even with the extortionate road tax the goverment has stamped on it.

Hi

Fear not Tpin, Jeremy has got your best interests at heart.

When he nationalises to Car Industry, British Leyland will be back.

We will all be driving the new Morris Abbott.

No mod cons, stuck in the past, constantly drifts to the left ,
cackles all the time and needs constantly filling up.

Yes Tpin, my last old Moggy Minor was so drafty around the drivers door I had to chuck a small blanket over my leg else I froze in the winter.

And the performance figures don't add up and the speedo exaggerates the true rate of travel.

Re: Pushbutton start and keyless entry

And what about the brakes being put on automatically when the engine is switched off. great idea and just start to pull away and they released, or the anti roll back or close object warning - or auto braking if getting too close - or the white line crossing, even the overhead view is amazing. Lets not forget about the self parking feature. Just a few of many features on my Nissan Xtrail Tekna, not even mentioned the 4 wheel drive availability or the auto dimmming rear mirror or the 5 cameras it comes with.

Re: Pushbutton start and keyless entry

Whatever happened to the joy of driving?

My 2nd to last Merc had infra red forward facing cameras..you could, if you'd been brave enough, driven at night using just the display.....the quality was that good.

Over the 14 months I owned it I used this feature extensively. ....twice to be exact.

it's all bo******

You can say that again Tpin, where is it all going.
We are going to be surplus to requirement soon, all you'll need to do while driving is look out of the window, or watch a movie on the now defunct sat nav screen.

There will be holidays where you can go and experience the thrill of driving on a private bit of road with Austin Allegro's and Ford Escorts to drive just like Great Grandad drove....

And for all the advanced drivers, there will be demonstrations on how to set the tappets and clean the sparkplugs.
