Foot clinic

Foot clinic this afternoon, I'm quite looking forward to it, lovely lady sorts my feet out these days much better than struggling to cut my own nails or having to ask family members to help me.

It's sad though it's only done privately as many diabetic patients could benefit from this service but these days you have to have the cash to get it.

I'm taking my elderly neighbour with me to get hers done too, we've worked out if I pay for her she will make dinners for my lot while I'm in hospital in a few weeks time. I'll provide food and she will cook for them.

I'll have to think of something else she can do in a few weeks time as I know she won't let me pay for her second visit if did can't pay me back !

Re: Foot clinic

Not so here in Ryde. The Pellhurst clinic is available by appointment (I am registered), and once a year a detailed feet inspection is done at the surgery. Both FOC.

That's good to hear, wish it was nationally available I'm sure many could benefit from it.

Re: Foot clinic

Mine are done by the Diabetic podiatry team, more than two years on and the wound is still not healed.

Re: Foot clinic

My lovely lady sorted out my ingrown nail on first visit I now have 6 weekly appointments and it hasn't recurred, which is great as last time it got horribly infected.

Re: Foot clinic

I am also diabetic.

At my last review, I asked if I could see the NHS podiatrist regarding various problems which I am experiencing. The nurse told me that she would try, but it was unlikely unless I was experiencing serious problems. How could they possibly know serious it was if I did not see the 'chiropodist'?

I have a further review next week... I'll raise the issue again with an alternative nurse which I have selected.

I`m type two diabetic-still have hairy big toes and my feet can feel you from a mile away. Just don`t touch me there.

Re: Foot clinic

Its awful , my mum is a diabetic and I was shocked to hear that she still struggles to do her own nails. Here the medical insurence covers about 6 treatments per year for diabetics. You get a referral from the foot clinic and then they give you a list of participating praticioners in the area.

Re: Foot clinic

I have the annual diabetes MOT which includes a foot inspection, about November time. Each April, I see the fully qualified foot inspector ffor his annual tests and checks, who visits each practice on the Island once a month. My tests results are also emailed to the Pellhurst clinic, so the chiropodist can see his figures.
If I ring up the practice at 0800 sharp, I can see a GP same day (never used it though). Superb all round.

Re: Foot clinic

Just bought myself one of those battery operated `pedi` type things to remove the hard skin off of my heels. On reading the leaflet that came with it, it said that it's not recommended for people with diabetes. Anyone had any issues or indeed used one of these?
