Brian Cant RIP

Brian Cant, the famous face and voice of childrens TV from the 60s to the 80s has died today. He was 83 and had been suffering from Parkinson's disease and died in a retirement home.

Who can forget the famous "Pugh, Pugh, Barney McGrew, Cuthbert, Dibble, Grub." from Trumpton as the fire brigade turned out to attend another emergency? He also voiced Camberwick Green at around the same time and Chigley a few years later.

He started his TV career as a presenter to the then new TV show Play School for younger children.

Strange isn't it. Couldn't recognise him from his later photos but as soon as I saw his earlier ones the penny dropped. Sometimes a struggle to realise everyone ages.

It was sad to see this on the news because Play Away was one of my favourite shows and he was fabulous in it. Unbelievable that he was 83 because in the '70s he seemed so incredibly young, but he must have been over 40 when I first started watching. Didn't realise he also did play school.

I couldn't recall him either until I saw the picture of him in his earlier days.

So many entertainers appear to be leaving us lately

A great presenter and multi-talented. I have seen him a couple of times presenting the Christmas concerts from The Royal Albert Hall. I always thought he was great on children's programmes and told funny jokes.
