Re: Pensioners to work for their pension!!!!!!!

Luckily i have over 30 years of Contributions, so will be entitled to my state pension.

Even when you go to 'sign on' at the Jobcentre for credits only they still want you to prove you are actively seeking work, making you go to any and every training programme available and making you feel like a nobody. Apply for any job THEY think you can/should do within one and a half hours travelling time from home.

I know someone who works for the DWP and know what it is like on the inside, all i can say is they are getting rid of lot's of staff, work is mounting up and staff are not trained properly any more, so God help us all.

Stef darlin' - the lack of adequate training in the DWP has been occurring for decades. Back in the mid 1980s, I was a founder member of a neighbourhood Law Centre. The then DHSS, recruited 18 yr olds from schools (those not going on to University) sent them to London for three weeks training on Social Security and on their return let them loose on the counter at the benefit office. For weeks on end we were inundated with clients who had been paid the wrong amount of benefits, because these kids were incapable of adding up a column of figures and arriving at the correct total (Giro cheques in those days were hand written and issued across the counter).

Re: Pensioners to work for their pension!!!!!!!

I enjoy my little volunteer post I do for the council, well it is not for the council it is more for the good of others, but it has to go through the council for the CRB check etc..
I think it is chore if you are told you must do it.
I received from this group when I was ill, now I get enjoyment in giving some back to others.
