White plastic garden furniture - cleaning

We have several chairs over at the allotment looking very grey, dirty and grimy.

Tried cleaning one yesterday with a brillo pad and a cream cleanser, but only surface dirt scrubbed away.

Not yet applied a scrubbing brush (nothing to hand). Bearing in mind I have to consider the stuff going onto our path - I can do the job away from growing areas - has anybody got any ideas on doing the job quicker, and with success?

Tried Googling but most replies are from the US (with regards to what to use). We don't have a patio cleaner.

Thanks.

I used to use a mixture of biological washing powder and salt, but that won't do your plants any good. Last year we borrowed a power washer from a friend that did it seconds and would be no danger to your plants.

If they're made of plastic why don't you try that specialised cleaner made for UPVC windows?

Other than that I would use a scouring pad and Flash with bleach spray... It gets my white plastic sink beautifully shining clean..

Julie, we might be able to direct any residue to a section that doesn't have anything worth growing, ie weeds. If whoever is doing the cleaning is careful.

Carol, someone on youtube used bleach. Sploshed it on then used a small sprayer. Not seen that cleaner for uPVC. Will take a look, or get a scrubbing brush and try the Flash.

Thanks.

Keep the tips coming please.

Careful with bleach it makes plastic yellow after a while and turns it yellow quicker in sunlight than indoors.

B &Q sell it. Not particularly cheap compared to bleach etc, but it DOES work.

Yes Julie, thank you, I am aware of this. (Said nicely, not nastily! )

Don't buy the cheap PVC cleaner from Wilko's, Jazzi, we bought some and tried it a couple of weeks ago on an old window frame - it didn't work!
You get what you pay for. I suppose.
