Sweet Peas

Does anyone here grow Sweet Peas?
When do you start yours off? Do you start the seeds off indoors, or wait till you can direct in the ground outside?
Do you chip the surface of the seed, or soak them overnight first?
Which way do you find gives you the best results?

Re: Sweet Peas

They're such a pretty little flower aren't they Meg, and I love the smell of them.
I have got several different tall varieties I want to try this year, plus some tiny 7" dwarf ones. I am hoping they will be interesting. I love experimenting.

Re: Sweet Peas

I'm not an expert Mups, last year I planted some seeds (in a pot, wigwam style) these were from the previous year. They gave me a very nice display, also filled a small vase for weeks. Just placed them in soil, no soaking beforehand. I am trying again in a few weeks time, see how they fare this time around.

Re: Sweet Peas

I planted mine in toilet roll or cut down kitchen roll tubes filled with compost and left them in the garage to establish a bit, was in March I think, then planted them against the fence - I just let some flop around a bit and others were grown up sticks - lovely scent. I didn't soak them or nick them, maybe I should have?
