Petrol mowers a thing of the past?

A bit from the paper:

"Will petrol mowers become a thing of the past, as gardeners switch to greener, and quieter options?
Garden appliance firm 'Bosch' is ending production of the gas-guzzlers in favour of battery-powered models.
A recent study found an hour of petrol mowing produces exhaust fumes equal to a 100-mile car journey".

I must say that last bit really surprised me!

It surprises me too, Mups, my neighbour always uses his petrol mower and I can never smell any fumes but they must be there, obviously.
He loves it and it does cut nicely but he don't 'alf race round with it!! Probably just as well he does..

I have two petrol mowers, both with Briggs&Stratton engines. I wish my garden was big enough to justify a ride-on mower, but Dianne would only grab the space for more vegetables and fruit trees.

Be a problem at our allotments, where we rely on petrol driven mowers. They do the job well (keeping the grass down on the paths).

My partner couldn't manage without one! His garden is massive and could do with a sit in mower. I'll maybe volunteer to take a turn this year

For any study or report or investigation, the devil is in the detail

Find out who carried it out, and more to the point, who paid for it

I would imagine that you could slant almost any study to get the results you want

Re: Petrol mowers a thing of the past?

I bought a petrol rotary mower about 20+ years ago and it's still going strong, it doesn't have a drive motor on it though so hard to push. It's my neighbour who cuts our grass so I acquired a Suffolk Punch through Freecycle thinking it would be easier for him but he hasn't used it yet. The small patch of grass that I do cut, I have an electric grass cutter.
