Cortana

Who IS Cortana?

Had a Windows update yesterday and she has appeared at the bottom of my screen saying I'm Cortana, Ask me anything!

Has anyone asked her anything? and WHY ?

Is it to do with Windows 10 update - they are trying all sorts to get you to download ........

I once had a Ford Cortana and used to ask it regularly, often quite rudely, to start when it wouldn't go.

Cortana on Windows 10 is a search engine (Bing by default) that can work on voice recognition and it speaks the search results. I tried once or twice on my Windows phone. It was a bit hit and miss but novel when it worked.

It has to know quite a bit about you in order to be useful, so some don't like it for that reason. I've never made use of it on the Desktop computer and have got it disabled.

Might be worth a try

Although it appears to be a voice recognition, there is always the possibility that there's a real person at the other end typing your information request into Bing and then reading you the search results. If so, she must be very busy.

Cortana is, for most users, an unnecessary, and intrusive addition to the Windows operating system - many users, including myself, have turned it OFF.
