Jack Palance as the hired gunman in Shane, that evil grin of his gets me every time. Donald Pleasance played some nasty charactors in his day too.

One of my all-time favourites was Robert Mitchum, in the original 'Night of the Hunter'.

I'd watch that film again and again - he really made your flesh creep, especially when the kids just escape him in a boat on the river and he stands there and howls like a demented animal!
That's so well-done!!

After that I suppose Bruce Dern - the archetypal "baddie" on so many Westerns.

In the film The Cowboys his character cold-bloodedly shot John Wayne's character in the back!

Public Enemy No.1 for years after that!! stevmk2

So pleased you metioned Bruce Dern - he frightened the life outa me, but so good he was and - when he shot John Wayne - well I just couldn't believe it, took me a while to recover from that !

Also Robert Mitcham - wow ..... scarey
