Re: Farmers Will ‘Grow More Food’ Under ‘No Deal’ Brexit, Says Minister Chris Grayling

Loads of people work hard but have to pay IHT on their semi detached suburban which has rocketed in price .
Meanwhile farmers sons are ahead of the game they inherit if they are lucky a tax free farm .
In this area thanks to the relaxed building regulations farmers are selling off agricultural land to developers making a packet .

Having land makes people very well off IMO they have opportunities others never have. If they just put one field to camping they can make enough to live on for an entire year. Try that with a semi detached anywhere else !

I see, makes sense now. Seemed a bit strange when I first read it!

It depends on the resourcefulness of the landowner and local regulations. Neighbouring farms may not want a campsite on the doorstep. People who live on farms but no longer have a working farm may not want to have a sudden change to the use of the land. Particularly if like some friends they are retired now with an empty nest and health problems.

What about all the mansions with acres of unused land? Will they want to give it up for the good of the country?

But in terms of brexit not sure how people will be lured into growing the crops we need when we need them at prices that are affordable. The government would need to have a robust plan for that now. No point growing food nobody can afford.

Hi

It was the main topic of conversation this morning in the village PO.

They think he is just plain stupid, the point being that if they could get more out of the land they would already be doing so.

And that comes back to wages are too low to live on, we need a proper plan I don't see anyone but corbyn actually having ideas and scoff at him as you may he is at least looking at going forward not sitting back saying it will be ok if we don't do anything.

Yes but wages and prices are linked so you raise wages and costs go up shortly after. It's like an economic ying and yang. Workers will never win. The ideal situation is to keep inflation low by cheap imported labour and cheap imports. But it's all going to catch up in the long term. I was expecting it to catch up sooner than it has as global economies developed.

Hi

Higher wages can be funded through higher productivity, and that is where we fall down badly.

Even the French have much higher productivity than we do.

That's what Marx predicted.
