Blood group?

Do you know your blood group? Should we know it? If we are suddenly taken into hospital, is it something that we need to know, in order to get treatment?
Just asking.

Re: Blood group?

I do know my blood group, I'm A Negative. My husband is O Positive and I had to have an injection after the birth of my first baby. I seem to remember them saying something about antibodies and protecting any future babies I had.

I'm not sure we need to know our blood group as medical professionals would check before any treatment is given.

Re: Blood group?

No I did ask once but was told due to various things it would cost me £35 to find out, I queried didn't the GP know and he admitted he did, so why would it cost so much for him to tell me ?

I do know my blood clotting disorder and I know I can't ever give blood or I could kill the recipient.

Well done that's something to be proud of Uj, my grandad got a commemorative medal after 45 years and another after 50 years. We were very proud of him for that.

Nowadays they give awards for certain amounts of donations. My husband has given eighty so far which considering his own ill health is remarkable. At his last session he was refused as he is anaemic. He has to wait six months before trying again. Three consecutive refusals and you're taken off the register.

Well done to him too, I think many of us owe a big thank you to people that give blood.
