Hi
Actually no, we would have to apply WTO rules to all car imports, which means the same level of duty on everyone.
Cars made in the EU would cost more here in the UK, which would include Kias, Hyundai etc.
Only 8% of BMWs are sold in the UK, 40% of all cars made in the UK are exported to the EU and without a trade deal, they would be subject to the same 9% WTO Tariff as EU cars coming here.
Ford makes in excess of 500000 engines here in the UK which are exported to the EU for assembly, BMW has two plants here in the UK, exports to the EU are £1.75 Billion.
These will be subject to tariffs when we leave.
Vauxhall, in Ellesmere Port has just been bought by Renault Nissan.
Their cars exported to the EU will also be subject to Tariffs.
It is very much a two way thing.
Honda have said that they rely on 350 lorries a day from the EU to produce cars in Swindon, which will be subject to Tariffs and the finished cars will be subject to Tariffs when exported to the EU.
Honda have said that any delays at Dover will cost them production, they work on the LEAN principle, minimum parts storage.
None of these Companies are British owned, they will go if the sums do not add up.
